(Note: decided to do some writing to help counter my art and writing skills, and to give my drawing tablet a break.
Also, this fic is a prequel to the events of BSBTF)
Characters: Bumper the Buoyant Bee, General Saffron (Nathan) the Precise Bee, Vivian the Vector Bee, Elmer the Fuzzy Bee, and Tillie the Tadpole Bee.
Bumper ran through the halls of the Mythic office. Greeting his fellow bees along the way.
"Hey, hey, hey! Morning Vivian! Morning, Elmer!" He trotted over to the Vector and Fuzzy Bee.
"Huh? Oh? Bumpy!! Hey, you little blue ball of fun!" Elmer got up from his seat, fuzz constantly shedding from his body onto the floor, earning the annoyance of the triangle-themed mythic. His body was merely indistinguishable from a fuzz bomb; the only notoriety was his semi-visible face and the large, flower-like wings.
He picked up the Buoyant bee and hugged him.
"Elmer, you're shedding again. Did you not preen yourself today? Urgh, soon enough you'll replace the marbled floor with some hideous carpet." Vivian said as she strutted away, her movements were posh and snobbish. Triangular wings settled on her side and out of the way.
Bumper only sighed, knowing Vivian isn't really the type who likes a mess. Being a Vector bee, she is hyper-focused on perfection and refuses to accept the term "good enough."
"Poor Viv, she just can't get a smile out of anything but her own work, and even when she perfects something, she sets it to work with a millisecond of joy. She's a tough cookie, and I wish she could smile." Bumper looked up at his Fuzzy friend; the balloons on his antenna looked deflated in sadness.
Suddenly, the entry door opened behind them, revealing it to be the Precise Bee, General Saffron. His body looked droopy, and his antennae hung on either side of his head. He sniffed and cleared his throat as he walked inside. His footsteps were heavy as he slowly headed to the elevator. Before he pressed the button, Bumper ran up to him with a bright smile, wanting to check up on him.
"Back off, Bumper...I need rest..." The red bee said, his voice sounding slightly raspy. Once the elevator was called, he then went inside and headed up to his room.
The Buoyant bee stood by, tilting his head in confusion.
When Bumper came up to General Saffron's door, he noticed it was locked. A sign that had "do not disturb" written on it hung on the doorknob.
"What's wrong with Nathan? Hm, perhaps I can go check..." Bumper ran past Elmer, who was chatting with Millie, a Tadpole Bee. He ran outside the office and went around the building.
General Saffron lay in his bed, watching some movies as he grabbed a tissue and blew on it before discarding it. He shivered in his blanket; his fur was slightly pale. As he tried to get comfy and began to close his eyes, he heard a knock on his window. Confused, he then went up to the window and opened it, revealing the Buoyant bee smiling at him, balloons holding him in the air. The Precise Bee let out a grunt of irritation as he closed the window, only for Bumper to knock again. Opening it and sniffing, he spoke to him with that raspy voice.
"Not now, Bumper...I'm not feeling well...go do something else and leave me be..."
The Buoyant bee didn't seem deterred by the sick red bee. Instead, he wanted to help him. He descended back down and looked up at the Precise Bee's window before he then bolted to Polar's for something to help the General get well.
Walking in, he would be greeted by the waiters and chefs before coming up to Polar Bear with a nervous face.
"Hey, uh, Polar! Y'know the General, right? He's sick, and I want to know what he likes. I do know he frequently visits here for brunch before a mission."
Polar Bear smiled as he came down to the Buoyant Bee. "He's fond of expressos and comes by for Scorpion Salads or having trail mix to go...hmm, why don't I make him some warm stew and some black coffee! Care to do me a favour? Gather up some Pollen and Sunflower seeds from the sunflower field! Also, as a Mythic bee and one who is helpful to a friend, I shall gift you a discount."
In response, Bumper nodded as he then flew off to gather the ingredients for the Bear.
Flying down, Bumper began to summon some balloons as he filled them up with the Sunflower Pollen. He looked around and dusted off the excess Pollen on his cerulean fur. When it came with sunflower seeds, balloons were not the go-to, as their sharp points can pop them. So, he resorts to using his hat as a vessel to carry them. Once he had collected enough, he flew up to Polar's.
General Saffron twisted and turned in his sleep. He grunted as he was having those fever dreams.
What he was dreaming about was of Bumper and the other mythics talking to him in a mean way. They called him such insults and names, it could make any bee cry in shame. Slowly, the other mythics laughed and slowly morphed into snakes before striking at him.
"Arrahh!!" He shot up and coughed, looking around and sighing, realising it was just some dream, he sat back down.
His silence was interrupted when he heard a knock on his window. Irritated, he got up to confront Bumper again, which he did, only to see that he was holding a bag and a cup of coffee. The Blue mythic smiled as he gave the General something to keep him warm and fed. The red bee didn't know what to say, and he only looked up at him with his heterochromatic eyes. He gestured the Buoyant bee to leave him be, taking the meal from the blue mythic's hands.
"Glad I can help, Nathan." Bumper smiled, waving to General Saffron as he slowly descended, knowing his mission was complete.
He walked inside, a smile adorned his face as he passed by Elmer, who was asleep in his chair.
When he got to his spot, he saw Millie walking up to him with a giggle.
"Hey, Bumper, so, how's General Saffron feeling?" She said, leaping up at the Bouyant bee's desk, sitting next to him. She took a piece of candy from the desk's "Take one" bowl and unwrapped it, plopping the sweet treat into her mouth.
"Well, Na- I mean, General Saffron is sick...so I ran to Polar's to grab him something to eat for the time being. Still got shooed off instead of a thank you...maybe he just needs a moment." Bumper's smile loosened to a mere frown, placing his front arms over the desk as he lay to the side. He took a piece of candy as well, slowly removing the wrapper.
Back in the room, General Saffron sat on a small, rounded table, finishing up his meal. He had picked it clean and drank the coffee until there was nothing but dregs in the bottom. He grabbed another tissue and wiped his nose before cracking a small grin in satisfaction. He got up from his table and picked up his phone, texting a thank you to the Buoyant bee. He went back to bed and settled down, ready to go back to sleep and recover from his cold.
Bumper picked up his phone and smiled at the text, wanting to say something back, but he just sat there, staring at the message sent to him.
"I thank you, Bumper.
I apologise for pushing you away, for I do not wish to allow you to grow, I'll as well.
I shall repay you for your kindness soon enough. Until then, I must rest."
"Bumper! Get up...you are needed down in the Blue Bay...the Bucko Bee wants you for his son's birthday party," Vivian said, passing by the desk of the blue mythic.
Bumper snapped out of his trance and got up, quickly rushing out the door.
This sudden rush of adrenaline from the Bouyant bee managed to crack a smile on the Vector Bee's face.
"Oh, Bumper, if only he knew how ridiculous he looks running to a silly birthday party..."
