"A glowing hunk of beeswax. Has a 25% chance to GREATLY improve a Beequip - but a 75% chance to DESTROY it!"

Caustic Wax is an inventory item and a type of wax added in the 2021-12-26 update that can be used on a Beequip to boost its stats. Upon usage, it has a 25% chance of greatly improving the Beequip's stats; however, it has a 75% chance of permanently destroying the Beequip instead, destroying the Beequip and also wasting the Caustic Wax. This wax cannot be used on permanent Beequips. Caustic Wax has Upgrade Value of 4.

It also can be used to craft a variety of different items, such as planters and tools.

When successfully applying Caustic Wax to a bee's Beequip, a message pops up saying:
The Wax improved the Beequip!

If the wax fails to upgrade the Beequip, a message will pop up saying:
The Wax destroyed the Beequip...

Prior to the removal of Permanent Beequips, using a Caustic Wax on a Festive Wreath or Reindeer Antlers results in the following message:
Cannot use this wax on a Permanent Beequip

Players who defeated at least 25 out of the 50 Mega Mechsquitos required to be defeated in Stick Bug’s Beesmas 2022 quest before the nerf got 3 Caustic Waxes + other items as compensation.

• The probability of Caustic Wax improving a Beequip 5 times in a row is 1/1024 or ~0.098%. Because of its low chances and its ability to destroy the Beequip, it is not recommended to try and use 5 Caustic Waxes on a Beequip when you are not prepared yet, instead people usually use Swirled Wax right after getting 1 successful caustic, to get upgrade rolls in desired stats.
• For some time, this wax could not be used on permanent Beequips.
• This is the only wax that can destroy Beequips.
• Bubble Bee Man's Beesmas 2022 quest required players to destroy 31 Beequips with Caustic Wax.
• Prior to the 2024-12-25 update, this item used to share the same icon with the Debug Wax.
  • Although the Debug Wax texture has been changed, both waxes do the same thing, just that Debug Waxes have a 100% chance of working.
