Lobby[]

The portal in the 10 Bee Zone near Dapper Bear's Shop.
Upon entering the portal at the 10 bee zone (next to Dapper Bear's Shop), the player is teleported to a separate experience: "Retro Swarm Challenge ⚔️ [DEFENSE THE HIVES!!!!] v1.2(fixed)". Players spawn on a classic-styled island surrounded by smaller islands that contain multiple historic models. The main island had five entry cubes, a billboard containing information on how to play the minigame, and a Portal leading back to Bee Swarm Simulator.
When entering a cube, a twenty-five-second countdown will begin. Each cube has a maximum capacity of four players. As soon as a cube is full, the timer will rapidly decrease. Once the timer reaches zero, players will be teleported to the minigame.
Gameplay[]

The playing field for the Retro Swarm Challenge. The hives are behind the player.
The challenge takes place in a long, rectangular box. Players spawn in front of four claimable hives at the beginning of the map. The map contains four different fields (Mixed, Blue, Red, and White), a Shop on the left, and a large cave at the end. When using Glitter in these fields, the icon for the boost is the same icon as that of the Sunflower Field boost icon.
Below the Honey and Pollen bar, players can view their Bricks, the current round, the time remaining in the round, and the HP of the hives. On the right side of the screen, there is a server leaderboard showing each player's Brick, Honey, and Damage totals. Players begin with fifty Bricks, and the hives begin with ten HP.
The objective of the Retro Swarm Challenge is to survive as many rounds as possible while defending the hives from monsters. In order to fight the monsters, players must unlock bees or buy weapons at the Shop to defeat them. Killing enemies drops Brick Tokens, which allow players to purchase more items.
Players keep their gear and bees from the main game, giving them a notable advantage if they have made significant progress. Players without bees have the option to rent and level up bees for Bricks.
When the HP of the hives reach zero, the challenge ends and players are rewarded based on their final scores.
Enemies[]
There are two types of enemies during the event: Slimes and Zombies. Enemies gradually level up. Like mobs, if a player's bee is a lower level than the enemy, their accuracy decreases by 50% per level.
Slimes move slowly in a straight line towards the hives, destroying flowers as they move through the fields, similarly to a Cogmower. As they increase in level, they grow larger, increasing their hitbox and health.
Zombies also move towards the hives. Unlike Slimes, if a Zombie spots a nearby player, they target them instead. Zombies are not fast enough to catch up to the player. Critical hits are more effective against Zombies.
Bricks[]
Bricks are the Retro Swarm Challenge's main currency. They can be obtained by killing enemies, through Leaves on the fields, or by destroying Brick Blooms. All Bricks are collected through Brick Tokens.
Brick Blooms are retro-styled flowers that can spawn on any of the four fields. Their behavior is very similar to Puffshrooms. After a certain amount of pollen is collected in their radius, Brick Blooms burst into Brick Tokens. The tokens that spawn from Brick Blooms are both local and global, so players always receive tokens from them regardless of whether they helped to destroy it or not. Brick Blooms spawn on rounds, 1, 3, 7, 12, 18, and may continue spawning on higher rounds. The first Brick Bloom always spawns in the Mixed Brick Field. When a Brick Bloom is defeated, another one will spawn in a random field, one level higher. More bricks are rewarded when defeating higher level Brick Blooms. In higher waves, multiple Brick Blooms may be active at the same time.
At the Shop, Bricks are used for unlocking, renting, and levelling up Bees, as well as purchasing weapons and boosts. Furthermore, players have the option to convert their Honey into ten Bricks at a time at an exponentially increasing price.
There is a hidden shop located to the left of the cave that allows for Honey to be converted into 100 Bricks at once.
Shop[]
Players are able to purchase items and unlock or upgrade Bees for Bricks at the Shop.
Rewards[]
After the Challenge ends, a panel appears, informing the player of their total damage, bricks collected, rounds completed, and final score. The rewards are listed at the bottom of the panel. The scoring system is similar to that of the Stick Bug Challenge, with rewards being based on the player's performance. Higher scores result in better rewards. The exact method of scoring is unknown.
Rewards may include three or four of the following items, with some rewards being locked behind a higher score:

The portal to the Retro Swarm Challenge during The Classic.
The Retro Swarm Challenge was Bee Swarm Simulator's custom experience for Roblox's 2024 "The Classic" Event. It was first released on May 23, 2024 and hosted a total of 10 collectable Tix and 5 collectable Classic Tokens until May 28, 2024.
During the event, fifteen user-created experiences, including Bee Swarm Simulator, were selected to create a custom experience where players could earn special event badges to redeem unlockable prizes. Players had the opportunity to earn 10 badges for Tix and 5 badges for Tokens in each experience.
A Token was awarded on wave 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.
Three Tix could have been found by entering the square teleporters scattered around the lobby, Three additional Tix could have been found within the challenge's map.
Four Tix could have been found around the main map.
The Classic Event has ended; you can no longer obtain the Tix or Tokens.
Strategies[]
- It is recommended to have atleast 1 player that will be destroying Brick Blooms, so that the defenders can also grab the bricks from them and buy stronger weapons, buffs, and more bees to help defend.
- During Beesmas, its recommended to have 2-4 players farming Brick Blooms so as much of them are destroyed as possible for the highest amount of SnowFlakes, since they can drop up to 15+ snowflakes on higher levels.
- The Rocket Launcher is a really powerful weapon, due to it's attack having "area of effect" damage, otherwise known as "splash" damage, which can be beneficial when zombies are grouped next to the slimes. It becomes even more powerful with a critical hit as it can one-shot zombies at lower levels and stil deal heavy damage to slimes. However, take caution when using it, as to not hit yourself or your own teammates as they can be flung across the map. Additionally, the Rocket Launcher should be aimed at the bottom of the slimes or in-between them. This is so you can maximize the number of slimes being hit at once, defeating them quicker.
- There is a difficult tactic with the Rocket Launcher that allows you to fly across the map within a few seconds. By jumping and shooting the rocket below you before you hit the ground, depending on where you shoot it (slightly behind sends the player forwards; directly beneath sends the player up), you will be launched to the opposite direction. This is exceptionally useful for traversing the map if you cannot spare time or whirligigs when buying or traveling the map.
- By launching yourself up with the Rocket Launcher, you can glide and land on one of the invisible walls or roof of the cave, giving you a very wide range of vision, additionally, this increases the Rocket Launcher's effectiveness to the fullest, as the rocket lands directly on top of the mobs, hitting as many mobs as possible with one rocket. This is quite difficult to pull off, and is generally not recommended for mobile players.
- It is recommended that if possible, one or more people should have the Illumina after getting the rocket launcher. This is because on stage 15+ there will be certain slimes that will have a much higher level than the others, meaning the Rocket Launcher is ineffective against them. The Illumina does exceptional single-target damage. So after defeating the smaller slimes, the user can defeat the bigger ones.
Trivia[]
- The Retro Swarm Challenge used to be accessible at spawn in front of the Noob Shop but was later shifted to the 10 bee zone in the 7/17/24 Beesmas update.
- The Retro Swarm Challenge has many references to classic Roblox content:
- The lobby utilizes many free models that were commonplace in many classic Roblox games, including the skyscraper from "Roblox World Headquarters", a pillar from "Sword Fights on the Heights", and a tower from "Crossroads".
- The event is inspired by classic zombie survival games, such as "Build To Survive The Zombies".
- The zombies share the sound effects, models, and behavior of zombies summoned by the Zombie Staff gear.
- The announcements that appear at the start of waves are reminiscent of an old announcement script.
- The slimes are a nod to "-<[ATTACK OF THE SLIMES: BUILD TO SURVIVE!!!]>-"
- All the Gears available for purchase in the Shop are among the oldest Gears in Roblox.
- The enemies in the Retro Swarm Challenge are consistently referred to as "monsters" instead of mobs.
- Aphids can still spawn during the Retro Swarm Challenge, albeit rarely.
- Some consumables, such as Purple Potions, Stingers, Glitter and Cloud Vials can be used during the event. Others, such as Field Dice or Balloons, are prohibited.
- Players cannot edit their hive during the challenge, but they can convert pollen to honey.
- Codes can be used to obtain buffs during the challenge. Buffs that are obtained before entering will remain active.
- Any pollen remaining in the player's bag before entering the challenge will disappear, although any pollen obtained during the challenge will carry over to the main game after losing (only if the player’s bag is empty before the challenge).
- The Retro Swarm Challenge map is on the Main map, behind the Badge Bearer's Guild, beyond the baseplate and teleportation wall.
- The same goes with the Hive Hub being on the main map.
- When a gifted Digital Bee's Map Corruption ability activates, the server-wide announcement message will still be displayed even though the affected field is inaccessible.
- You can unequip a weapon or tool by selecting it in your inventory and accepting the prompt to unequip. This is useful for destroying brick blooms.
- Alternatively, you can put a weapon in your 1-6 hotbar to enable fast switch without prompting, and vice versa to equip your tool.
- Rocket Launcher's projectiles can collide with Amulets and fling players, this has a small chance for the amulet hit to freeze in place or completely flung away.
- Rocket Launcher´s projectiles can be used to fling yourself, shooting close to your avatar and moving.
- A Gingerbread Bear can be found next to the hives.
- This used to be next to the cave, but was replaced by the Aureolin Gift Box.
- Attempting to use the Trowel without bricks will result in a message saying “You’re out of bricks!”.
